The Baby and the Bathwater October 22, 2007 20 out of 38 found this review helpful
I'm not real impressed with this one. It's mostly complaints about a movement he used to be part of. Many complaints are valid; many are over-stated and narrow-minded, and many of his conclusions came from his experiences at a single, week-long conference.
If you want to read about a bunch of Christian leaders and all their flaws (some real, some trivial, some imagined), then this is a fine choice for your favorite blatherskite. If you are looking for a more objective approach, you'll need to look elsewhere. Unfortunately that will be difficult, as books about a movement (this one and others) are so often just what this book is: "Here are my impressions and observations," rather than careful studies. If you really want to learn about someone, get to know them.
An answer to prayer October 15, 2007 31 out of 36 found this review helpful
When many in the 'modern prophetic movement' are doing things like throwing pocket change on the floor and dancing on it, Mr. Strom's book is a breath of fresh air, a solemn wake up call and an answer to prayer. As a new Christian who had been chasing conferences and eating up great cotton candy prophetic words daily, only to left feeling emptier and more confused, I'm so grateful that someone has taken the time to share these tools for discernment. Using as contrast historic revivals and piercing revival preaching of years past, it's easy to recognize what's been missing. This book left me in tears, weeping for a restoration of the true gospel and with such a yearning to see real revival in our nation. May we settle for nothing less. Thanks Andrew! Maranatha!
Great Book September 25, 2007 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
"Why I Left the Prophetic Movement," takes a stand for truth in an age of deception and confusion. Few are willing to speak out against the false prophets harassing the Body of Christ. Speaking from experience and actual involvement with the prophetic movement, author Andrew Strom weighs into consideration the true and false move of the Holy Spirit with balance and bold honesty. May this book convince the family of Christ of the opportunity that is set before Her and the dreadful danger which is in our very midst. Let us wake up to the times which we are living in; to be sober minded and of good judgment for the purpose of prayer (I Peter 4:7).
Prepare for What's Coming September 19, 2007 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
"Why I Left the Prophetic Movement" by Andrew Strom is as practical as it is eye-opening. In 2 Chronicles 12:32 we read about "the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do". Andrew's writing is of the same spirit; understanding the times with sober, straightforward, well-informed, well-balanced, Spirit-led wisdom and yet not leaving us without knowledge of practical Biblical principals as to what should be done in an age such as ours.
This book will stir you and prepare you for what is now in our midst and for what is yet to come, as we move ever closer to the great and terrible Day. Until then, we press on to know Him and to see His Glory and Revival Fire consume the nations - "by life or by death" (Philippians 1:20). On with it!
REVIEW BY GREG GORDON - (SermonIndex-net) September 17, 2007 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
"Andrew Strom's new book, 'Why I left the Prophetic Movement' comes with brutal gut-wrenching honesty to the system of delusional self-sufficient American Christianity which has freely spread over the earth as the genuine original. This book asks many questions which are needing to be asked in these terrible last days." -Greg Gordon, founder of SermonIndex-net
