5 out of 5 stars wake up call   January 2, 2008

Worthwile evaluation and historical look at recent prophetic and revival history. A must read for those who have the "guts"to face their questions and disappointments regarding revival and the church. This book gives me hope for the future if we will heed it's message and sharpen our discernment for what is ahead.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! A real impact book.   December 23, 2007

This book is not for the faint hearted believer. Andrew Strom doesn't pull any punches - even when he himself is the target. He confesses that he was a loose Pharisee cannon at an earlier age before he learned that loving people is more important than beating them over the head with truth. What a refreshing attitude! He makes the plea for others to avoid his mistakes. Repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand. I thought this book was solely about the strange manifestations of the charismatic world, which I witnessed first hand in Toronto and in my home church. I never accepted the twitching and barking like a dog, etcetera as something God would cause. As a result I felt a little stiff-necked. After reading this book, it appears that I dodged a bullet. However, he goes way beyond just that element of what is wrong with the church today. If you have itching ears to hear consoling doctrine, you aren't going to like the laser precision exposure of people seeking the gospel of Comfort as opposed to the gospel of the Cross.
This is well written and a powerful testimony. In addition, it is going to ruffle the feathers of some people who think they're sitting on the catbird seat.

4 out of 5 stars Been There... Done That... He's Right!   November 10, 2007

I must say that, having been personally involved in this "movement" and attending many of the conferences and places Andrew mentions, I absolutely could not put this book down!!!

He is spot on in regards to the depth of deception involved in this circle. Try as I might, I simply could not get into some of the weirdness going on...it just did not set well with my spirit.

The focus is NOT on repentance, salvation, deliverance, etc... but on visitations, third heaven experiences, bridal intimacy, etc... I wanted to RUN as fast as I could from this madness.

Many who have been involved in this "movement" are sick of the hype and the manipulation, to the point of being completely out of the loop in regards to organized religious sytems altogether!!!

Kudos to Andrew for writing this book... whether or not you agree with every single thing he has to say, there are many who can testify based on their firsthand experience that THESE THINGS ARE HAPPENING and that THE CHURCH IS VERY SICK!!!

Lord, help us!

4 out of 5 stars Hard hitting message   November 7, 2007

This book is more than an expose of the prophetic movement, it is also a hard hitting message to the entire Laodician Church today. I disagree with a couple of points, but mostly he is right on target. It is a lukewarm, money hungry people that heap up teachers who tell them what they want to hear, like "you can be rich."

Strom calls for a massive revival of truth, prayer, repentance, and calls for prophets to rise up who will call for the church to repent or face the judgment of God. He says that what happens to Christianity in America eventually spreads throughout the world, so it is vitally important that America have revival.

This book is a good read for every Christian, including preachers, especially Charismatics and Pentecostals, because it shows where and how the prophetic movement got off track. I did not realize just how bad it has gotten until I read the examples presented here.

I believe he has done a disservice to the resent revivals, such as Brownsville, because he does not even consider them to be true revival because of the "manifestations"; yet he says the same thing happened in the Great Awakenings because the demons were trying to derail them, and in some cases actually did. So, why did he not believe that the recent revivals were genuine and that demons were trying to discredit the resent revivals?

But as someone who witnessed two of the revival centers firsthand, (one for three months) I never saw any of those so often condemned "manifestations"! The critics take a one-in-10,000 event and make it as though everyone were experiencing the manifestations, but that is not true! And since they were caused by demons attacking a few weak individuals, (the same as with the past revivals) I think Strom should repent for condemning the recent revivals!

5 out of 5 stars Why we don't fit in with today's Christianity   November 4, 2007

My husband and I are Spirit-baptized believers who understand and believe in the gifts of the Spirit according to 1 Corinthians 12 & 14 and the book of Acts. We have never fit in with the Charismatic/Prophetic churches because we just felt that something was wrong. And yet we didn't fit in with the other denominations who don't even believe that these gifts are for today. Andrew's book answered a lot of our questions about what is wrong, what is missing, why we don't fit in with what's out there, and what we should be doing about it. It opened our eyes to our own need for repentance and revival so that we'll be ready for the job God has for us to do. We now realize the significance of our wilderness experience and what is required of us to heed the Lord's call. We highly recommend this book for anyone who has been searching for real New Testament Christianity. God definitely has a place for you to fit into. Thank God for a man like Andrew who is not a man-pleaser or a compromiser (only in the ministry for the gold and the glory.) THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY A MUST-READ!!!!
