There Is No Good News without Bad News May 17, 2001 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Without conviction of sin there is no confession of sin; without confession of sin there is no repentence of sin; without repentence of sin there is no salvation from sin. Faithful to the Bible, Ray Comfort, practices and in Hell's Best Kept Secret promotes a radical form of evangelism that begins with the premise that the Law of God condemns to eternal damnation those who are yet under the mastery of our sins. Without this conviction, why should there be any imperative to believe the good news that Jesus Christ died so that we can be forgiven, through faith in Him, for our sins and that He arose from the dead so that we too can have eternal life? Ray is grieved by the shallowness of many cheap, easy-believer, feel-good temporary professions of faith that are in response to a watered-down Gospel. As an counterpoint, he does not mince any words with his accurate and comprehensive restatement of Christ's authentic Gospel. This book is refreshing in its tough honesty. Because it conforms to Biblical truth, it is powerful in its conclusions. Hell's Best Kept Secret is the most convicting, provoking and reassuring book on evangelism I have read.
It is now one of my favorite books. December 6, 1999 I am a bit of an apologist. I have studied everything from the physics of the earth's magnetic field to the arguments for natural law to the history of every heretical Christian offshoot to Greek and Hebrew word studies. However, I think that the argument that this book uses is able to simply blow all of my studying out of the water in terms of its ability to assist in witnessing to others about God. I am glad, too, because it is easier and it feels better and makes more sense to use! I reccommend it above any other study guide I have yet seen, though I would suggest getting things like "Evidence that Demands a Verdict," "Darwin's Black Box," "The Kingdom of the Cults," and "735 Baffling Bible Questions Answered." Buy it! You won't be dissapointed if you have a desire to witness. It's cheap, too, so you really don't have much reason not to buy it! This once-pharisee was impressed enough to change his whole stance on witnessing techniques!

I was talking to a friend whose church has recently begun using the Law out on the streets, and receiving the backlash for it. Christians scream at them for condemning sinners and not being kind...all because they do not understand the purpose of the Law. In Hell's Best Kept Secret, Ray Comfort will teach you the purpose of the Law and how to use the Ten Commandments when speaking to a sinner so that he sees himself as he really is: a condemned sinner. Not condemned by you or me, but condemned by his own actions. Ray will also teach you how to approach a person using the RCCR Principle - Relate, Create, Convict, Reveal - based on John 4. I first read this book in late 1989, and it revolutionized the way I witness. The message contained in this book is so important that I've shared it on three continents, plus with people all over the world through the internet. One read of the book, and you'll find yourself wanting to purchase other copies to give to friends. The teaching is THAT important. For more practical advice about witnessing, you may also want to purchase Ray's "How to Win Souls and Influence People." For more understanding of the purpose of the Law, you may want to purchase his soon to be re-released "God Has A Wonderful Plan for Your Life: The Myth of the Modern Message." And coming soon, "The Evidence Bible." Sorry for sounding like a commercial, but Ray's stuff is important for the Church. You can find out more by visiting his website.
A book every Christian needs to read! August 31, 1999 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Here is a book that takes the Christian through every step of sharing their faith with others and in the most biblically founded way. He uses a vast amount of Scripture references throughout so you can see for yourself the foundation of evangelism. It is full of great spiritual truths - some of which may not be easy to "swallow" for some of today's modern Christians. He has a wonderful sense of humor and a way of drawing mental pictures so you can understand, in today's context, the purpose and challenge in witnessing. He draws from the wisdom of our "fathers" in the faith and shows us how to effectively use their techniques in today's society. A valuable evangelical resource and one that every professing Christian should read - perhaps more than once! Beware, you may find yourself being converted!
Clear Salvation Principles October 31, 1998 Halfway through this book, I got into a conversation with a co-worker. Using the "basic" principles explained, I led my "new" brother to Jesus Christ.
