1 out of 5 stars Atheist Don't Proselytize   July 14, 2005

Look, it's simple, there is no god, there never was, there never will be. Period. This book is pure nonsense. In response to the other reviewer who wrote "proselytizing Atheists," my only response is "wow!" That is one of the most ignorant things any human has ever put into writing. How dare someone accuse atheists of proselytizing. Look here, nimrod, atheists proselytize far less than any other school of thought or religion, except for maybe Jews. I've never met an Atheist who tried to force his views on other people. That's something no one can say is true about Christians. Atheists generally don't care what other people think, unless those people are forcing their views and beliefs on them. Innumerable crimes against humanity have been done in the name of God and the Christian church, in particular, due to proselytization. How many terrorists kill innocent people in the name of Atheism? How many Atheist terrorists have YOU heard of? This book does nothing but fill it's readers with recycled religious babble, no science, and in the end wastes peoples' time. If you want to read a good book, read Atheist Universe by David Mills. These are my views, I'm not imposing them on anybody, I'm just sharing my feelings on this issue. I've never tried to convert anybody, or told anybody that when they die they're going to an atheist version of hell or they'll be tortured or they'll be cursed or any other such nonsense. I leave people alone, I'm just annoyed by the way Christians twist and pervert the truth and I won't stand for it. Thanks.

1 out of 5 stars One for the true believers.   April 11, 2005

Although well written, like many books on apologetics Mr. Comfort's book is aimed squarely at strengthening the faith of existing Christians. Many of Mr. Comfort's arguments against atheism are also arguments against theism in general (and Christianity in particular).

For example, he asserts that ""There is no God," is... an absolute statement... For the statement to be true, I must know for certain that there is no God in the entire universe. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion."

However, "There is a God" is also an absolute statement. For the statement to be true, Mr. Comfort must know for certain that God is not a figment of his imagination or a cruel trick played by aliens. No human being has all knowledge. Therefore, none of us is able to truthfully make this assertion.

In Ray Comfort's world then, everybody is agnostic. That may be true in the strictest sense, but it's simply not very helpful.

Mr. Comfort elaborates: "[i]f you insist upon disbelief in God, what you must say is, "Having the limited knowledge I have at present, I believe that there is no God." "

Similarly, to be intellectually honest, Mr. Comfort should say "having the limited knowledge I have at present, I believe that there is a God."

Again, that mouthful is not too helpful. Are the shorthand versions really that bad?

Mr. Comfort's book is full of similar equivocations, false dilemmas and circular logic. As such, it's unlikely to convince its claimed audience, whilst the encouragement it gives to true believers will be negated when these errors are pointed out to them whilst witnessing.

5 out of 5 stars A bright witness amidst a murky and confusing world.   January 25, 2003

With sharp reasoning, infallible logic, and quick wit, Ray Comfort slices up the thin veil of atheistic "reasoning". No more excuses for those who would deny the existence of God. And nowhere to run. But to the cross.

Using object lessons drawn from common human experience, Comfort destroys the deceit of the enemy. The wonders of the human eye, the beauty of an organized universe displaying the glory of God, the intricacies of nature, all point to the Creator.

Neither the human mind, mathematical formulae, nor the scientific method can adequately apprehend all of God, it is true. But neither can they disprove Him, quite the opposite. The closer scientists get to understanding, the nearer they get to God.

This book is an easy read from a man whose heart beats to tell the story of Christ and for the lost. You will come away with a fire in your heart, clearer understanding in your mind, and a smile on your lips.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book FROM DCMK834   January 2, 2003

This is a "Great" evidential analysis of creation of the world and mankind that I have read. Mr. Comfort gives solid evidence in destroying the fallacy of the Big Bang "theory" and Darwinism taken from the Bible. It is amazing what one can find in the Bible. Mr. Comfort proves that the Big Bang Theory is like playing the lottery. What are the chances or odds that world was created out of nothing--very slim! He also gives evidence from the Bible that the world was round and was stated even before Aristotle and Plato. This is a good read for anyone who wants to find a purpose in life or enrich themselves with the word-- DCMK834

1 out of 5 stars In summary, it's [not good].   October 20, 2002

Throughout the entirety of this book, the author uses forms of fallacy: the slippery slope, the straw man, circular logic; as if that weren't bad enough, he always speaks of the "proof of the Creator" that he gave or will give, when, in reality, that "proof" is just as faulty and intangible as everything else.

He claims on the book cover that he doesn't use the Bible or his religion to prove anything, but this is clearly a lie; he constanttly uses the same cliche's any Bible-Belted person has ever heard.
