Useful if you actually do what it says August 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been street witnessing for the past 5 years. I am by nature a shy, introverted Christian woman, so if I can do it, everybody can.
Ray Comfort's ministry at livingwaters.com has been very useful in training me in how to come up to complete strangers and open a conversation with them so that they will be receptive to a presentation and explanation of the Gospel. I have witnessed face to face to well over 1000 people over the year and I'd say that at least 95% of them enjoyed the conversations and thanked me for talking to them about God. And I owe much of that to the training I got from Ray Comfort's teachings and example.
Ray Comfort is himself a very shy man (I know I've met him several times), and it's just out of love for the Lord that he witness to people in spite of his fear of rejection.
I don't have the 'gift of evangelism', just as I do not have the gift of speaking English. It's just something I've learned to do by doing it over and over. And I got good at it simply because I've been doing it regularly. It's like learning to play the piano: it's about practice, practice, practice.
"Thanks A Million" will teach you how to use tracts as ice breakers to initiate conversations easily with complete strangers. It teaches you how to direct the conversation toward spiritual things, and how to explain the Gospel in a language that people can understand and remember. The book gives plenty of illustrations and analogies that you can use to share the gospel in more a vivid and memorable way.
I recommend this book along with Mark Cahill's "One thing You Can't Do In Heaven" for those who want to learn how to turn almost any conversation into an evangelistic discussion.
great book February 13, 2008 Very entertaining and educational book gives many examples of Ray and Kirk witnessing to complete strangers effectively and inoffensively.
Adrenaline Filled (yet, simple and everyday) Adventures in Biblical Evangelism January 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you want to share your faith but don't know how, this is a great book, reading like a collection of case studies (or real-life examples) of how to actually do it, most in simple everyday scenarios, such as witnessing to people you meet at work, around your street, service workers that come to your house, colleagues, etc. It also contains some less everyday witness encounters, such as witnessing to prisoners, famous celebrities, "open-air" preaching at a High School, witnessing to psychics, gang members, and more.
Biblically sound, lasting conversions come when sharing your faith the way Jesus did it, using the law to show sinners their sins, so that they can truly appreciate Jesus' sacrifice on the cross (the grace part). Biblical-based witnessing is guaranteed to give you joy and drama in life!
This book is sure to help you increase your zeal for evangelism, as well as train you in the practical how-to's that can often be intimidating to Christian believers. Matthew Henry states (book quotes him): "I would think it a greater happiness to gain one soul to Christ than mountains of silver and gold to myself."
This is an excellent follow up book after you have read the more introductory book that has more Biblical exposition as to the way of witnessing, why it is done in this way, and similar questions, see The Way of the Master by the same authors from the Way of the Master ministry.
