5 out of 5 stars The WAY to keep growing...   December 16, 2008
I vaguely remember Growing Pains and it was my younger sister who had Kirk Cameron posters hanging in her bedroom back in the day. I picked up this book because I have been greatly encouraged by the ministry of Ray Comfort & Kirk Cameron. Their books, tracts, training and public ministry have helped my family to share our faith. I was delighted to see Kirk's 1st reactions to Ray's evangelism method in this book. You can read about this yourself in Chapter 21. I know that I had a similar thought pattern prior to getting my feet wet sharing the Gospel the way they model it. And I too have had people ask me for more tracts! Although, it hasn't always been "smooth sailing" as I have had at least one person refuse a tract and others who have just walked away so it was refreshing to see that Kirk shared his shortcomings in this book as he first came to faith earlier on in his career.

While the book is not necessarily in strict chronological order, it is laid out in such a way that you see a progression of Kirk's maturity. His description of "life on the set" early on in the book gives one insight into what it must be like in Hollywood; and from some of these little glimpses, I find that my heart really goes out to those rare few in Hollywood who take a moral stand and speak up for moral clarity and faith in our magnificent Creator.

Those who enjoy a great romance, will also be delighted with the tale of Kirk & Chelsea. Kirk describes well the true nature of marriage and I appreciated "hearing" directly from Chelsea. You will also get a glimpse into their hearts as parents of 6 of God's blessings in their lives, their precious children. Learn also about their ongoing work with Camp Firefly and their heart for families. What's more, it's a blessing to see a public example of committed Christians living their faith in front of others, regardless of how unpopular that may be; and regardless as to whether or not sharing his faith comes across as "preachy," whatever that truly means. Like Kirk, I am still growing, and I pray that he continues to grow boldly in his faith, demonstrating and modeling for others the way to salvation.

This is a highly recommended read and a great gift book for any Growing Pains fans you may know!

3 out of 5 stars A Little Discombobulated   November 30, 2008
This book was not written with a timeline, which means that you might have read about something, then it comes up again later and you're thinking, wait a minute - this already happened. I really struggled with what age he was at different points in his story. I admit to reading it with a purpose - I wanted to learn what brought Kirk to Jesus. And, I loved when he got to that point. It took a while - a lot of reading about his time in showbiz, which was interesting, but not why I chose to read the book. I love that Jesus can make a 17 year old thoughtful, compassionate, and desiring a wife who loves the Lord. It gives me prayers for my own kids. I appreciate that Kirk wrote this book, and I appreciate the insight into the end of Fireproof, as I was wondering about that kiss!

5 out of 5 stars Could not put it down!   November 23, 2008
Really great book, for people who love to read real stories written with truth heart and soul honesty. VERY VERY good. Read it!

5 out of 5 stars Great reading!   November 10, 2008
It's refreshing to read a memoir by a former teen idol who never got messed up with sex, drugs, or alcohol. Kirk Cameron is very honest about what life was really like during his "Mike Seaver" days...both the good and the bad. Some of the upsides: he got to meet legends like Bob Hope and Lucille Ball, and he got to travel to exciting locations like Hawaii and Monte Carlo. But Cameron also talks about how a trusted financial advisor swindled him of his money, and, even worse, how he was stalked by a pedophile.
Kirk Cameron shares how he got started as an actor in the first place: as a young boy, he appeared in commercials and some minor movie and tv roles before he landed his job on "Growing Pains."
Most people know that Kirk Cameron is a devout Christian, but he doesn't discuss his faith until the latter chapters of his book. But his testimony is very profound. He is also very candid about his mistakes.
Today, Cameron keeps a lower profile, but he has been blessed with a happy marriage to his wife Chelsea, six children, and Christian ministries called "Way of the Master" and "Camp Firefly." Of course, he also starred in the Christian films the "Left Behind" series and the recent "Fireproof."
I highly recommend "Still Growing" by Kirk Cameron.

5 out of 5 stars Cameron's tale of correcting past mistakes   September 4, 2008

The curse of the child star and the teen heart throb, to be corrupted by Hollywood at such a young age. "Still Growing" is Kirk Cameron, former star of the hit sitcom 'Growing Pains', story of his life. He discusses his time on a show becoming someone he now despises and hates, someone who would do something as cold as firing his mother. When the stardom started to fade, only then did he learn what he did. "Still Growing" is Cameron's tale of correcting past mistakes and becoming a better person through finding God, sure to inspire readers everywhere.
