 Good practice for learning Greek October 29, 2007
The only way to really learn Greek is practice. Mounce's basic Greek textbook is good, but this workbook really helps with drilling the concepts in each chapter. Each chapter has parsing exercises for nouns, pronouns, the article, adjectives and then verbs as they are introduced. These parsing exercises are invaluable (more would be even better). Each chapter then has translation exercises in three sections ("warm-up" is fairly simple, "translation" tests your vocab & parsing for the chapter and all previous chapters, "additionals" are designed to stretch you beyond what was taught in the chapter).
The best part is that Mounce publishes his workbook answers on the web (www.teknia.com) along with Greek & Hebrew fonts, slide shows, and sample quizes.
There are 3 things about this workbook that could be improved:
1. Mounce uses words in the translations that are not in the student's vocabulary yet. This is designed to challenge you in the additionals, but he often does it in the standard translations as well. There are already enough new words and paradigms in your head without this headache.
2. There isn't enough room between the "additionals" to do proper parsing and translation work.
3. The pages don't tear out very easily.
I also highly recommend the box of vocabulary cards and laminated study sheet. The vocab cards are in sequence with vocabularly introduced in each chapter. The laminated study sheet is a summary of everything in the text book - the kind of thing I would have made for myself if Mounce hadn't already done it!

Give up the TV and learn NT Greek. This is the way to do it. Definitely order this companion workbook to go along with the text.

William Mounce's "Basics of Biblical Greek Workbook" is peerless. This is the primer for every student of biblical Greek. It is user-friendly, easy-to-read, even fun (so rare with a Greek text!). The workbook exercises are thorough and get the student into the text--thus motivating the reader to do the hard work necessary to learn biblical Greek.

This workbook is absolutely necessary if you want to make your investment in William D Mounce's Basics if Biblical Greek pay off. Actually I'm not sure that the book is even necessary if you have this workbook. It explains every answer in that much detail.
Oops... My apologies. The work book doesn't explain the answers, but if you take the time to download the answers, they explain themselves very well...
A good workbook companion to the Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar June 27, 2007

If you plan on learning Greek with Mounce through the Grammar this workbook is essential. If you are disciplined this self study will help you learn and retain what you read in the grammar. The major draw back is Mounce fails to provide the answers to the workbook... maybe teachers guide is available. Nonetheless, you can check your own work by going back over each chapter. I recommend it.
